Today (May 5, 20120) the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society's pebble pups and juniors and the pebble pups from the Flatirons club in Boulder, Colorado went on a field trip to North Table Mountain, a lava flow near the Colorado School of Mines. After a very steep hike we entered a quarry area full of zeolite minerals. The zeolites are a group of minerals that combine rarity, beauty, and unique crystal habits. At the North Table Mountain site the zeolite group of minerals form in cavities (or vesicles) of volcanic rocks. Everyone found tomsonite, analcime, and chabazite.
As the pebble pups examine and identify their finds, we will post them here.
